What is meditation?

Meditation is a process that allows the mind and the body to gain a state of deep rest and relaxation so that the person practicing it can show up to life and be the best version of themselves for their family, friends, co-workers, and life partners. There are many thousands of meditation techniques to suit every type of person and personality. Often, people make up their own techniques in a sort of trial-and-error-type process. Other people explore techniques that they find on YouTube, or from books, CDs, or meditation apps. Certainly, these things have a variety of advantages, and people should be encouraged to explore any or all of these avenues to see what works, and what feels the most comfortable for them. In the end, the best method of meditation for you, is the one you love to do.

Why meditate?

Well, why not? What do you have to lose but stress, anxiety, poor sleep, the inability to focus or concentrate, depression, stress-related illness, high blood pressure (okay, okay. I'll stop.) The point I am making is that meditation is good for you. It is an act of self-preservation and self-love. Its physical benefits can prolong your life and improve your health. Its mental and emotional benefits have the possibility (over time) to increase inner happiness, increase mental peace and clarity, increase your capacity to love others, yourself, and a Higher Power if you have one, or if you are inclined to believe in one. I wish to say here that with or without a belief or interest in a Higher Power, if you meditate consistently and regularly, you will reap all the rich benefits that meditation has to offer. If you have tried to meditate in the past and you felt like it just didn't work for you, take heart. Meditation is an innate ability of the mind and nervous system. We just need to learn how to start the process, and then your mind and body will meditate FOR YOU.

What makes this technique unique or helpful?

Many techniques of meditation include: visualization, trying to create a pleasant or calm mood, (mood making), contemplation, concentration, being aware or tracking of thoughts and emotions, using music, using audio-guided meditation, or trying to create a specific outcome or result. The meditation technique on this site requires NONE of these methods. It teaches a simple and effortless technique of using attention so that the mind will settle down into silence without us hardly doing anything. This technique is 2% doing and 98% allowing. The technique is easy to understand and learn, and many people say it is enjoyable to practice.

Important Note: Anyone reading this Website, or the words above, should in no way get the impression that I am suggesting that (meditation alone) can cure depression, heart disease, or other mental or physical illnesses. For ALL types of illnesses, it is critically important that you continue to take all the medications that have been prescribed by your doctor/doctors. Also, it is important that you continue to practice a healthy lifestyle. Meditation should be seen as a supplement which can, over time, enhance physical, mental, and spiritual health. It is not a CURE ALL or a replacement for conventional medical treatment. Furthermore, before starting any meditation program, (including this one) please seek the counsel of your doctor, therapist, or other health care professional to see if they feel meditation is safe and appropriate for you.
